What We Believe

Please find below a brief statement of what we believe, our statement of faith, at Chiswick Baptist Church . Should you have any questions at any point, please do not hesitate to contact us and we would be more than happy to sit down with you and your family and discuss. We would love to meet you in person, so please do come and visit us soon.

By faith, trusting wholly in the Lord Jesus Christ for our salvation, believing in the teachings and practices of Baptist, and in those great, distinctive principles for which they have ever stood, we, therefore, band together as a body of baptized believers in the Lord Jesus Christ for communion and fellowship in worship, for cooperation in service; for comfort and edification of one another and to fulfill the Great Commission; We adopt for our statement of faith the following articles.

We believe that the Bible was written by men supernaturally inspired; that it has truth without any admixture of error for its matter; and therefore is, and shall remain to the end of the age, the only complete and final revelation of the will of God to man; the true center of Christian union and the supreme standard by which all human creeds, conducts and opinions should be tried.

How Can I know for SURE I am going to Heaven?

“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” – Jesus (Book of Romans 10:13)

“[The jailer]..brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.” ~ Acts 16:30-31

Jesus Christ is the only way to assure your salvation and allow your soul to be saved. It is only through Him that you can ensure yourself of an entrance into heaven after this life.

To be sure of your Salvation in the Lord Jesus Christ you must first:

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. ~ Romans 3:23

First, see yourself for what you are…a sinner. Sin is any violation of the laws of the Lord, this includes the 10 Commandments! (Exodus 20:3-17)
It has dire consequences: “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” ~ Romans 6:23

You must repent. Repentance is not making a resolution to do better. It is not just conviction of sin, for a person may be convinced that he is wrong and still not repent. D. L. Moody liked to describe repentance this way: “Man is born with his back toward God. When he truly repents, he turns right around and faces God. Repentance is a change of mind, a change of heart, and it results in a change of action.”

“Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord.” ~Acts 3:19

Isaiah 55:7 states, “Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon”

You must change your mind about sin and want God to release you from the bondage and hold that it has on your life. Jesus reminds us of this in the book of John, “Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.” ~ John 8:34

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” ~ John 3:16

Believe in the completed work Christ accomplished on the cross. You must believe that Christ substituted Himself for you, that He died for your sins (Jesus was sinless), and that He was resurrected from death.

“My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.” ~ 1 John 2:1-2

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” ~Romans 5:8

“He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.” ~ Matthew 28:6

“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” ~ Romans 10:9

You must believe in Christ and receive Him personally into your life by faith if you are to be saved from the power of sin and its consequences. Religion will not save you. You must have a personal, daily, ongoing relationship with the Son of God, Jesus Christ, the one and only true God.

Short Statement and Confession of Faith

1. We believe the whole Bible from Genesis 1:1 to Revelation 22:21, as the verbally inspired and infallible Word of God.

2. We believe Jesus Christ was born of Mary the Virgin, and is the Son of God, and God the Son.

3. We believe that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, the Just for the unjust that He might bring us to God.

4. We believe that He arose from the grave the third day according to the scriptures.

5. We believe that He, only, is the great High Priest, and we need not the intercession of any man, but that Christ ever liveth to make intercession for us.

6. We believe that Christ will come again in Person bodily, visibly, to establish His Kingdom on the earth.

7. We believe that in order to be saved, the soul must be born again — “Ye must be born again.”

8. We believe that every truly born again soul should declare his faith by the act of baptism, (immersion in water) setting forth the Lord’s death, burial, and resurrection.

9. We believe that the church is a body of baptized believers whose only mission is, not to “reform the world,” but to preach and teach the Word of God to the individual soul.

We invite all New Testament Baptist Churches to enjoy this fellowship with us on the ground of the Scriptures as briefly outlined in these statements of faith.

Strictly speaking, a Baptist Church cannot belong to any organization. But, it is clearly taught in the New Testament that the churches had fellowship with each other in both doctrine and practice.
